Mogadishu,(InsideSomalia.org) Talks are underway for the release of a Russian vessel held by pirates at North eastern coast of Somalia, said by Association of sea captains.
The ship which is a tug boat was hijacked three days ago by Somali pirates who moved the vessel to Eyl as indicated by reports from Bosaaso.
The ship, Svitser Korsakov, had six people on board, two Britons and four Russians, the RIA Novosti news agency reported.
Talks between the ship owner, a Sakhalin-based company, and the pirates via a British mediator are underway.
"The tug boat Svitzer Korsakov has most likely been seized for a ransom payment, as it was carrying no cargo," said Pyotr Osichansky, president of the Far Eastern association of sea captains.
He said ship owners usually manage to negotiate with the local pirates, so there are high chances that the crew will be safely released.
Unconfirmed reports say that the pirates were probably running the tugboat toward Mogadishu, Somalia, said RIA Novosti, as quoted from the Russian Far Eastern Rescue Center.
