Boosaaso, (insidesomalia.org)-Puntland Government, one of the three regions in which Somalia is divided, sent soldiers to the area where the Basque tuna boat Playa de Bakio is hijacked, anchored somewhere off the Somali coast. Encouraged by the successful release of a Dubai-flagged ship yesterday, they could try to storm the ship.
Military authorities from this region are ready to finish with piracy and announced the seven pirates arrested in the United Arab Emirates ship will be sentenced to death.
But such an intervention in the Playa de Bakio ship could endanger crewmembers’ life. In fact, one of the fishermen said on Tuesday that the pirates are almost 10 and all of them are soldiers. The frigate sent by the Spanish Army will arrive today.
On the other hand, Spain's Foreign Minister, Miguel Angel Moratinos Moratinos commented Wednesday on the Basque tuna boat that was hijacked on Sunday by pirates in the Gulf of Aden. "We have instructed our ambassador in Kenya to make urgent contact with the Somalian authorities to facilitate the freedom of our fisherman," Moratinos said.
Spain's Prime Minister, Rodriguez Zapatero, said efforts were under way to secure the sailors' release, and that aid was being sought from NATO, the African Union, France and Britain.
