Nairobi, (insidesomalia.org)- Kenya beat Somalia 5-3 on penalties in an entertaining Africa Youth Championships soccer first round second leg match played in Nairobi on Saturday.

The Under-20 match was stretched into penalties after the east African neighbours drew in regulation time at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Kenya will meet Sudan in the second round of the event running under the aegis of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

In Nairobi, Kenya beat Somalia 2-1 in a match that saw Somalia nationals living in the country as refugees cheer their team on. Somalia had also beaten Kenya 2-1 in the first leg match in Djibouti two weeks ago, resulting in a 3-3 aggregate o n Saturday.

Due to the long running civil unrest in Somalia, it switched its home matches to neighbouring Djibouti. The aggregate draw prompted match officials to opt for the penalty shoot-out to determine the winner.

In regulation time, Stephen Waruru fired home two for Kenya in the 47th and 79th minutes, while Said Abdalla pulled one back for the visitors with a rasping shot that caught Kenya goalkeeper Evans Adach on the wrong foot.

Eugene Asike, Kevin Kimani, Didacus Odour, Hussein Puzo and Heavaner Maloba conv erted the spot-kicks for Kenya.

Somalia scored through Hussein Ali, Said Abdallah and Abdiaziz Ali. Custodian Ad ach saved Ibrahim Ahmed's kick.
