Mogadishu.( InsideSomalia.org)  Representative from local independent radio stations and local human rights group met on Saturday in Mogadishu with Somali Security officials and members of the newly appointed Somali cabinet of ministers, say government official.

The meeting which took place at Somali Police Headquarter was discussed ending disagreement between the government and independent media, Abdullahi Ali Farah "Atosh", the general director of Radio Simba who attended the meeting speaking to InsideSomalia.org.

"During the meeting independent media organizations show the concern on how Security forces treat with the media outlets by cracking down independent radio stations, arresting journalists and media administrators" said Atosh.

Marian Ow-reye, chairperson of the Dr Ismail Juimale Human Rights Centre speaking at the meeting said that government should change its attitude towards Journalists and Independent.

"Government should respect freedom of press and freedom of expression and stop harassment against media by the security forces" said Ow-reye.

Ahmed Abdisalam Adam, deputy premier and minister of Information, sports and Youth said that his government will respect independent media apologizing things that happened what he described as "The past" .

Abdisalam said that he will ask for the Somali legislative body amendments made on the new media law ratified by the Somali Parliament last year before Somali President Abdullahi Yusuf  put his signature on it to become official law.

At least eight journalists were killed, five wounded and 42 others were arrested in the 2007. Two journalists are being detained by government forces in the capital Mogadishu, and are still in detention, for unknown reasons.

Somalia ranks the second after Iraq all over the world in countries where it is hard for journalists to work and perform their duties to inform the public.
