A Journalist Released from Somali Government Jail.

Mogadishu, (InsideSomalia.org) Somali government has released Mohamed Abdulkadir Al-Bashir, a journalist used to work for Somaliweyn radio Station in Mogadishu on Monday from jail after he was in detention since last month, say officials from Somaliweyn radio station's administration.

 

Al-Bashir suspected of having links with insurgents as said government official speaking in anonymity has been detained by Somali security officials with the manager of Radio Somaliweyn Abdirahman Mohamed Hudeyfi who was later released on January.

 

Somaliweyn radio station was ordered off air twice last by the Mogadishu's local Authority with out apparent reasons, said Abdirahman Hudeyfi, the manager of the radio station who appealed on just on Monday before Mohamed Al-Bashir was released for his discharge.

 

On other journalist, Mohamed Shidane Dabban, a reporter used to work for Radio Banadir in Mogadishu is the only Somali journalist still in custody since last December after being arrested by National Security forces at Aden Adde International Airport as he was preparing to leave the country, so apparent reason were given on his arrest.

 

On February 2nd representative from local independent radio stations and local human rights group met in Mogadishu with Somali Security officials and members of the newly appointed Somali cabinet of ministers.

 

 The meeting was discussed ending disagreement between the government and independent media.

 

"During the meeting independent media organizations show the concern on how Security forces treat with the media outlets by cracking down independent radio stations, arresting journalists and media administrators" said Abdulahi Ali Atosh, the manager of Radio Simba who attended the meeting.

 

Ahmed Abdisalam Adam, deputy premier and minister of Information, sports and Youth said that his government will respect independent media apologizing things that happened what he described as "The past”.

 

Abdisalam said that he will ask for the Somali legislative body amendments made on the new media law ratified by the Somali Parliament last year before Somali President Abdullahi Yusuf put his signature on it to become official law.

 

Somali Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein speaking in a ceremony of 21st January, marking Somali Freedom of Press Day held Mogadishu said that his government would stop media crack down and restore freedom of press.
