Mogadishu,(insidesomalia.org)-Afgoye is one of the districts of Lower Shabelle region in Southern of Somalia. It is situated at 28km south west of Mogadishu, 60km North of Merka, 60km of south east of Wanla weyn and 30km of South of Bal'ad.
Afgoye has been shared the problem of lack of functional government for the last sixteen years, as well as currently governmental mismanagements with the rest of the country, Southern Somalia in particular.
The population is estimated to be over 70,000 inhabitants. A river bases through the town, dividing the town into two parts. It has more than 100 villages that come under the district's administration.
Socio-economy
Afgoye is the centre/linkage of the most southern part of the country. All the roads to and through are asphalts and can be used all the seasons.
The district's economical sectors are related Agro-pastoral (traditional rain fed, irrigated farms and cattle raising). The community is mainly agriculturalist and over 70% the population derives their livelihood from crop production where as the rest depend on live stock keeping and small business Enterprises.
The water system of the town is partly from piped water, bore holes and river.
The people get the water through the Pipe, fetching from the Bore holes and the River.
