Jowhar, (insidesomalia.org)- Some of the traders of Jowhar town the headquarters of middle shabelle region in southern Somalia were arrested after they have refused to implement the use of the old one thousand Somali note.
The local police commander of Jowhar town Sheikh Mohamed Osman said the reason behind the arrest of these town traders came after they rebuffed the take of the old and torn one thousand Somali shillings, which is currently the solo remaining money unit in Somalia.
The sheikh also added that the number of these arrested people is 11 and they are among the famous traders in the town.
“These arrested people would face the trail and they would receive their penalty however it is, and we can not tolerate such people” added the sheikh.
The administration of the Islamic Courts Union which arrested these people said that they would closely follow the buying and selling of the town.
Jowhar town traders have turned deaf ears to early warnings by the Islamic Courts Union to take the old note.
Earlier there had been the same problem in most parts of the country, and the city dwellers have shown great apprise but has eventually ended up in a successful manner.
