Abas Hussein Abdirahman, 33 years old, was killed in front of some 300 people in the port town of Merka, some 60 miles (100Km) south of the capital Mogadishu. A spokesperson for the Al-shabab Group in the port town of Merka said that the woman is waiting for death when she gives birth. A member of Al-shabab called Sheikh Suldan Aala Mohamed said that Mr. Abdirahman had admitted to adultery in front of an Islamic court. The Somali Islamist group of Al-shabab controls much of southern Somalia, while the western backed government runs only a little of the capital city Mogadishu. It is the third time that Islamists have stoned a person to death for adultery during the past year alone. If the girlfriend of Abdirahman is also killed, her baby would be taken to relatives to be looked after. Somali moderate president Sh. Sharif Sh. Ahmed has accused Al-shabab of abusing the image of Islam by murdering people and harassing women. During a ceremony at which he nominated a new administration for the capital city of Mogadishu, President Sharif said "Their actions have nothing to do with Islam" adding that "they are forcing women to wear very heavy clothes." Al-shabab has stoned to death two men in the same town after accusing them of spying. A 13-year-old girl was stoned to death for adultery in the port town of Kismayo some 300 km south of Mogadishu last year. According to human rights groups a young girl had been raped. Also another man has been punished in this way in the lower Shabelle region. Somalia has not had an effective government since warlords overthrew dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991.
