 Mohamed Omar Ismaiil was found guilty of Robbery by governing Islamic militants (Al-Shabab) in port town of Kismayo. Under Sharia law, the Islamic court has sentenced Mohamed Omar Ismaiil to have his right hand cut off. The age of Mohamed is assumed to be around 35 years old.It is alleged that Mr. Mohamed Omar entered a house in Kismayo and stole number of clothing items. Mr. Mohamed Omar has admitted to part of the crime. With large crowds, the judge, Sheikh Abdi Wali had read to the court the punishment. This is not the first time the Islamic group known as Al Shabab, who introduced strict form of Sharia, or Islamic Law, carried out this sort of incident, it was just last year when they amputated a young man named Yusuf. Under strict Sharia law, theft is sentenced by severing their hand. The death penalty is meted out for murder, rape, armed robbery, apostasy and drug trafficking. The sentence was carried out around 5pm local time today. Prior to hand being cut off Mohamed looked nervous, but was under extreme pain as there was no medical support provided. We have seen pictures, which we will not publish. It is truly horrific. The alleged crime and punishment does not balance in this day and age. It is extreme and barbaric. Despite the progress made over the last several hundred years, there are pockets in this world were medieval punishment is handed down without any compassion or weighing against alleged crime. Items stolen were valued around $90 US Dollars! The future for Mohamed Omar does not look bright in a country with no medical support or welfare system. This is crime against humanity.
